Since the program’s founding in 2013, BCI has facilitated 103 internships at organizations such as AstraZeneca, Booz Allen Hamilton, the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), the Milken Institute, Ely Lilly, and more.
Applicants from Johns Hopkins' School of Public Health, Whiting School of Engineering, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, and School of Medicine are encouraged to apply. Internships are available annually in the 5 career categories below:
- Biotech & Pharma (Research and Development)
- Business Side of Science (Consulting, Venture Capital, and other fields)
- Data and Computational Science
- Science Policy and Communications
- Government Contracting
New internships will be posted on this page on November 15th, 2023. Applications are due in January 24th, 2024, with all applications submitted on Handshake. Interviews take place in February and have flexible start dates throughout 2024. *Note: due to internship policy variations between JHU schools, PhD students in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences are only eligible for semester-long or summer internships.
What is needed to apply? First, gather all signatures on the Intent to Apply form, which you will submit to the BCI Program Director, Dr. Amy Braun. Next, Dr. Braun will help you create a resume (not a CV!) and discuss your specific career interests and internship timeline. Note that some internships will require a cover letter, which Dr. Braun can help you create.
